Gender consequences of parents' separatation on their subsequent career paths in connection with caring of their minors
Malínková, Markéta ; Dvořáčková, Jana (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the effects of parents' divorce or separation on their subsequent career paths in connection with the care of joint minors and the gender differences of this situation. Using qualitative research, I am looking for an answer to my research question: What is the perception of career changes after divorce/separation from the point of view of mothers and fathers? The work is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, I focus on the principles of the functioning of the current social order from the gender point of view and how it shapes the behavior of individual actors and actresses. Using the concepts of somatization of domination, cultural optical glasses or hegemonic masculinity, I draw the attention to the invisible mechanisms that influence the actions of every member of society. This social order frames the situation of parents after separation/divorce, when women and men are in a different social position and therefore have to choose different strategies. Parents who do not live in the same household must find new ways to satisfy their own and their children's material, emotional and practical needs. Both have to decide whether to go to work for economic earnings or to stay at least partially at home and take care of their...

The Effects of the Level of Motivation for Junior Staff in Ghana: The Case of University of Ghana, Legon
Baffoe-Takyi, Kwame
Abstract This study is about the connection between the types of motivation, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and their effects on employee performance. The thesis is an extensive research on the campus of the University of Ghana together with a review of the work of other scholars. In prior research on this subject led by Vroom (1964) it was presumed that a positive relationship between motivation and employee performance was non-existent. Be that as it may, later researches demonstrated that it is a possibility indeed to motivate employees intrinsically and extrinsically to perform to their maximum best, and that employee motivation and job performance are decidedly related (Petty et al., 1984). Those latter theories proved that when organizations put the right measures in place, employees are naturally propelled to repay management with improved performance. This perceived relationship is investigated in this thesis and the idea is to provide valuable information to stakeholders in the management of public universities in Ghana, especially the University of Ghana, to help make informed decisions on junior staff employees in these institutions. At the end, the researcher makes useful policy recommendations to management of public universities in Ghana to help forestall the possibility of industrial actions, which have plagued the Ghana labour market from hitting the country’s few public universities.

This thesis seeks to ascertain the current situation as compared to the development of the Agricultural sector and other sectors before and after the commercial production of crude oil in Ghana on economic development. The study assesses the performance of Agricultural export and import, the labour market in the economy and the industrial sector. Data for the study was obtained from the Ghana statistical service, Bank of Ghana database, OEC, and Statista databases. Leontief Wassily Input-output model was modified as import-export for data analysis and concluded that the newly discovered oil has led to the decline of Agricultural and other product export market share in Ghana but with no significant movement of labour from other sectors to the oil sector due to lack of skills. To address this issue, the government must focus on agricultural and other sectors which have been the main source of revenue before commercial production of oil to achieve economic diversification and stability in Ghana Economy.
